Hyundai Creta SUV launched at a starting price of Rs 8.59 lakh

NEW DELHI: The much-talked about Hyundai Creta Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) was launched on Tuesday at a starting price of Rs 8.59 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The Creta will be available in petrol and diesel variants.

All variants of the Creta get ABS and EBD as standard. Mid-level variants offer dual front airbags, while the top-end SX gets side and curtain airbags with VSM and ESC.

A 1.6-litre CRDi VGT diesel engine delivers 128 PS and 259 Nm of torque, and is paired to a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. Also available is a 1.4-litre CRDi diesel rated at 90 PS and 220 Nm of torque.

For buyers on the lookout for a petrol variant, HMIL will offer its 1.6-litre Dual VTVT engine with a 6-speed manual transmission as well.

Creta is being launched globally for the first time in India. The roll-out of the five-seater SUV in the country would be followed by launches in other international markets.

"We are confident that Creta will strengthen Hyundai's position in India. It will define SUV segment in the country," Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) Managing Director and CEO, B S Seo said.

The SUV comes with various features including navigation system, smart key with push button start and leather seats.

Hyundai has received 15000 confirmed consumer interest or pre-bookings till now.

The company is aiming to offer a complete package of aggressive pricing, good looks, high equipment levels and first in industry unlimited warranty for three years and 20% lower spare parts cost to wean away prospective customers of Renault Duster, Ford EcoSport and Mahindra Scorpio.

Rakesh Srivastava, SR VP, sales and marketing at Hyundai Motor India told ET, "The response to Creta has been tremendous. We have had successful product launches in last couple of years but none has matched the reception that Creta has."

To be sure, Elite i20 premium hatchback got 10,000 bookings in the first 20 days of its launch and Creta seems to have bettered that.

In a segment where the diesel is the pre-dominant fuel option for the buyers, based on the initial response, Hyundai Motor India expects 25% of its total sales to come from petrol run vehicle and almost 15% of it will be with automatic transmission, which is double of its earlier estimates, said people in the know of Hyundai Motor India's plans.

The company has re-oriented its plans based on the initial interest from the consumers. To make the most of the upcoming festive season, the company had advanced the launch of the vehicle by a couple of months.

Hyundai aims to sell a minimum of 5000 units per month and sees the vehicle contributing significantly to its double digit growth target of 13-14% to 4.65 lakh units for the domestic market.

Hackers threaten to release names from adultery website

A dating website that helps married people cheat has been hit by hackers who threatened to release information about millions of customers.
Ashley Madison, which uses the advertising slogan "Life is short. Have an affair," said Monday it had been attacked and some user data was stolen.
So far, though, it isn't easy to find the exposed cheaters online. That could change soon if the hackers decide to publish the information on a public website.
Brian Krebs, the blogger who first reported the breach, said the hackers were threatening to release all Ashley Madison's customer records if the website isn't shut down.
The hackers called themselves the "Impact Team," and the potential release includes "profiles with all the customers' secret sexual fantasies and matching credit card transactions, real names and addresses, and employee documents and emails."
In a statement, Avid Life Media, the parent company, said: "At this time, we have been able to secure our sites, and close the unauthorized access points. We are working with law enforcement agencies, which are investigating this criminal act."

Ashley Madison is a dating website, with one important twist: Instead of connecting eligible singles, it caters to married people interested in having an affair. The site claims to have 37 million members, and has in the past bragged about its data security.
The site is an obvious target for hackers. After all, its databases have enormous potential for use in blackmail schemes.
The hackers -- or hacker, perhaps -- appear to be upset over the company's "full delete" service, which promises to completely erase a user's profile, and all associated data, for a $19 fee.
"Full Delete netted [Avid Life Media] $1.7 million in revenue in 2014. It's also a complete lie," the hackers were quoted as saying in a manifesto published by Krebs. "Users almost always pay with credit card; their purchase details are not removed as promised, and include real names and address, which is of course the most important information the users want removed."
On Monday afternoon, the company defended the service, and also said it would make it free.
Avid Life Media also said that it had hired "one of the world's top IT security teams" to work on the breach.
The hack follows a similar event in March, when more than 3.5 million people's sexual preferences, fetishes and secrets were exposed after dating site Adult FriendFinder was hacked.
Adult FriendFinder, which boasts 64 million members, claims to have "helped millions of people find traditional partners, swinger groups, threesomes, and a variety of other alternative partners."
Included in the exposed personal information are customers' email addresses, usernames, passwords, birthdays and zip codes, in addition to their sexual preferences

BAJARANGI BHAIJAAN

The journey of Salman Khan's character from India to Pakistan in "Bajrangi Bhaijaan" is treading towards a successful run at the box office but in no way does it trump SS Rajamouli's Baahubali which had earned Rs 50 crore on its first day.

The Kabir Khan directorial, which is the actor's Eid treat to his fans, amassed over Rs 27 crore since its release on Friday. The real litmus test of the film will be on 18 July, when Ramzan is finally over.
However, we should note here that the Hindi version of Baahubali made only Rs 5-5.5 crore on the opening day and the film released in four languages. Compared to that, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, which released only in Hindi, did great business.
Co-produced by Salman Khan Films (SKF) with Rockline Venkatesh, the movie brings forward an extraordinary story of how an Indian and a dumb and mute girl from Pakistan find affection for each other during a simple road trip.

Trade analyst Komal Nahta says the film's box office collection will silence critics, who pass off Salman's films with incoherent scripts.
"So, the first day's figure of #BajrangiBhaijaan has silenced all those who thought, the film had no merits? Rs. 27.25 crore on Ramzan day,” Nahta tweeted.
Another trade guru Taran Adarsh shared: "#BajrangiBhaijaan Fri ? 27.25 cr [pre-Eid]. SUPERB... Today onwards [Eid], biz should only zoom upwards... #Kick ? 26.40 cr [pre-Eid]."

Barrett soon got the upper hand with a gut punch, but Truth;s mocked him once more and almost locked him up in a pin. Truth dropkicked Barrett outside the ring and followed that up with a splash over the top rope to the floor. While laid atop the top rope, Barrett snapped Truth’s neck over the top rope and then planted a big boot right to his face. What followed was Barrett locking in a submission hold into Truth’s spine. Truth got back to his feet for a comeback, but he was put back down to the mat with a back elbow. Barrett then laid Truth within the ropes and planted another big boot to his face. Barrett continued his beatdown of his opposing king. Truth managed to dodge another Barrett big boot, which led to Truth getting back into the fight at hand. Truth made his expected comeback with his usual array of fast paced offense. Truth almost became the king after pinning Barrett with a Scissors Kick. Truth went for a suplex, but was countered and slammed with Barrett’s Winds of Change. Barrett went for his Bull Hammer and missed, but on his 2nd attempt he laid out Truth to lay claim to his crown.

Highlights: Orton and Sheamus locked up at first, but Sheamus took a detour outside the ring to get a quick break. A 2nd lockup between both men saw Orton get the better of his Irish rival. Sheamus soon locked in a headlock, which then led to both men getting into a back and forth fray that ended when Sheamus got dropped by a back elbow. Orton followed Sheamus outside the ring, hit him with with punches and threw him back first into the security barrier. Sheamus hopped back in the ring and back out again, but Orton followed him up with quick clothesline. Orton and Sheamus soon got into a war that consisted of who could land the stiffest European Uppercuts. Orton won that exchange, but Sheamus soon slowed Orton down with his Irish Curse. Sheamus landed two more Irish Curse’s to gain further control over the hometown hero. Orton tried fighting back once again, but Sheamus caught him with a knee to the gut and flying knee drop from the top rope. Sheamus then locked in a sleeper hold on “The Viper.” Sheamus brought Orton back down as he tried to recover, landed a running knee drop and locked in another sleeper hold. Both men got back to their feet, which then saw Sheamus miss a shoulder charge on Orton. Sheamus fell outside the ring, but he managed to return to anther punch exchange with Orton. Orton got the better of it with his comeback offense and even backdropped Sheamus onto the announce table outside. Back in the ring, Sheamus almost landed his Brogue Kick but Orton countered with a Powerslam. Orton then went for his ring apron DDT, but Sheamus fought out of it and landed a Rolling Senton and Powerslam on Orton inside the ring. Sheamus looked to his another Brogue Kick, which Orton dodged. An Australian surfer has made an incredible escape

An Australian surfer has made an incredible escape after encountering two sharks during a major competition in South Africa.
Mick Fanning was competing in Jeffreys Bay, on the eastern Cape, when one of the sharks approached his surfboard.
The final of the J-Bay Open had only just started when Fanning was knocked off his surfboard and into the sea.
Fanning, the defending champion, escaped injury. The tournament was called off soon afterwards.
"I was just sitting there and I felt something just get stuck in my leg rope, and I was kicking trying to get it away," Fanning told Fox Sports.
"I just saw fins. I was waiting for the teeth."
Fanning, a three-time world champion, said he was able to "get a punch into its back" and startle it.

The event was being broadcast live on television. Footage later cut to Fanning and co-competitor Julian Wilson, also of Australia, on a rescue boat reliving the incident.
The relieved-looking pair then received loud applause from a crowd on the beach.
"I was swimming in and I had this thought what if it comes for another go at me? So I turned around, so I could at least see it, and before I knew it the boat was there, the jet-skis were there, the jet-skis were there. I just can't believe it," he told journalists who were at the competition.
Mother's horror
Fanning's mother said she was terrified when she saw the live footage.
Speaking from her home on Australia's Gold Coast, Liz Osborne told the Australian Broadcasting Corp it was "the worst thing I've ever seen happen to any of my family because it was just there in front of me".
Her son Sean was killed in the car accident in 1998 but the family were not with him at the time.
"I saw this just in front of me. It was just terrible," Ms Osborne said. "I was so scared. I just thought when that wave came through that he'd gone," she said.
The World Surf League (WSL), which organises the competition, said Fanning was approached by two sharks, and that he and Wilson were both rescued from the water by jet-skis.
